Anselmo Gai hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 7th minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Benny Stolpe breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Freddy Basajaun who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 12thth minute tested the skills of Julio Vera when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aldo Rito, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 18th minute of play forced C.A. Daniel Zorita came free with the goalkeeper in the 55th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Benny Stolpe could save by the left post. Daniel Zorita charged in rather forcefully in the 56th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Daniel Zorita the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Cesar Garcia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. With an all-out effort, Ecuador's Benny Stolpe threw himself towards the right post 60 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Cristian Sancho, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 61st minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 62nd minute of the match, but Benny Stolpe made a huge save. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a free kick in the 63rd minute. 64 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Aldo Rito came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Anselmo Gai's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 94th minute of the game.
