Amuruza Lillo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 12th minute of the match. In the 14th minute, Fructuoso Olle hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 16 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Amarante Gibert. Amarante Gibert sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Amarante Gibert tried to sneak it across the goal line. Daniel Zorita scored 0-1 in the 22nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Amuruza Lillo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Amuruza Lillo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. If Amarante Gibert had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 40th minute, when Amarante Gibert sent off a good shot on target. After 43 minutes of play, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Amuruza Lillo was left in no man's land by his defense there! 47 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Amarante Gibert came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Amarante Gibert stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that Amarante Gibert's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 53rd minute of the game.
