The mood of the audience was pleasant when Daniel Zorita made the kick off which started today's match. In the 4th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dan Cambridge saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dan Cambridge took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 11th minute of play forced Santiago Futebol Clube's goalkeeper Dan Cambridge to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Daniel Zorita in the 13th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dan Cambridge prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nico Bueno in the 14th minute. In the 15th minute, Luis Andino got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 17 minutes into the match, Santiago Futebol Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Luis Andino came free, but Dan Cambridge reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Juan Sebastián Puig hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. In the 23rd minute, Santiago Futebol Clube's Enrique Arósio ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Julio Vera. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Santiago Futebol Clube's Arlindo Ramos was substituted for Teo Roano. Nico Bueno sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lorenzo Santa María in the 80th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Santiago Futebol Clube's Sidnei de Barros got a free kick in the 84th minute. Santiago Futebol Clube's Francisco Zanette was substituted for Nico Bueno. Santiago Futebol Clube's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-4. Daniel Zorita's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Dan Cambridge firmly grabbed it by the left post. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Lorenzo Santa María kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. Ecuador played a much better game than Santiago Futebol Clube and deserved their victory. The Santiago Futebol Clube players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
