With a little luck, Mszczyczyn's András Erdélyi got control of the ball when Agustín Saelices tried to sneak it across the goal line. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Beniamin Bienienda in the 45th minute of play. Mszczyczyn's Zygmunt Pietrowicz was substituted for Beniamin Bienienda. Mszczyczyn's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Chants of Mszczyczyn echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as Ecuador had held the ball for most of the match.
