Jonathan Ferrant made an important save on a dangerous shot by Yan Vieira in the 11th minute. Camilo Gaos hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. In the 15th minute of the match Dínamo São Paulo got a corner. Venezuela's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ronaldinho Gaúcho ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Ronaldinho Gaúcho almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant did a great save. Jose Correa hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. 22 minutes into the game, Dínamo São Paulo's Luiz Paulo Vasconcelos nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jonathan Ferrant made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Andreas Ivarsson hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Yan Vieira in the 36th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. André Siqueira shot from long distance in the 39th minute, but Jonathan Ferrant was prepared and stopped the ball at the left post. Jonathan Ferrant stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Luiz Paulo Vasconcelos's shot from short distance in the 42nd minute. Venezuela's Patricio Costa got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 47th minute, Dínamo São Paulo's Yan Vieira dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Yan Vieira was the one to do the kick off. Jose Correa hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. In the 54th match minute, Dínamo São Paulo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alberto Duarte to maneuver through the defense. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Laurent Lanen during the 57th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Diguinho Toledo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tomas Illescas, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Dínamo São Paulo fans cheered their team off the field, for while Venezuela had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
