The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Estudiantes de La Plata was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gaudencio Berasko didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Roque Miro in the 18th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Filomeno Flor kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Roque Miro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 24 minutes, Abel Carballo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Costa Rica and the Estudiantes de La Plata players grew even worse after the yellow card. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Joel Hitzeder in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Benito Sanz saved Costa Rica from getting behind. After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Filomeno Flor kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot. Ertaç Bilek showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Axel Tasis, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. The supporters of Estudiantes de La Plata booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Juan Rubio didn't get a good kick on the ball. Joel Hitzeder received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Benito Sanz came out and tried to block the shot, but Joel Hitzeder slotted it home off the left post making it 3-0 in the 45th minute.

In the 53rd minute Costa Rica were awarded a corner. Axel Tasis went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Costa Rica's corner Alan Moruga fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Ertaç Bilek quite easily take care of the ball. When Estudiantes de La Plata's Joel Hitzeder in the 58th minute got a chance for a shot 58th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Estudiantes de La Plata's Ignacio Valente was substituted for Lázaro Anaya. Aaron Alcocer kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. 75 minutes into the game, Estudiantes de La Plata's Pedro Rameriz nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Benito Sanz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-0. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joel Hitzeder in the 80th minute of the match. 81 minutes into the game, Joel Hitzeder cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 6-0. Benito Sanz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Roque Miro scored 7-0 in the 92nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benito Sanz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.
