Gianluigi Buffon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 34th minute of play. If Alberto Tafalla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mexico's Luca Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Joel Gaona to strike the kick off in the second half. Gianluigi Buffon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joel Gaona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 52 minutes into the match, Sociedad Anónima's goal looked a bit too open when Joel Gaona came free, but Gianluigi Buffon reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Sociedad Anónima booed when Mexico was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luca Zorita didn't get a good kick on the ball. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 87th minute, Macos Graciani hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Velasco Rollan had several of the Mexico's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 88 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-1 score and a disappointed Dante Lacasa as he didn't even see the shot coming. After a rather tough play, Sociedad Anónima's Dawid Klocko got a free kick in the 95th minute. Sociedad Anónima succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Mexico had controlled the match.
