In the 20th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Agustín Saelices to maneuver through the defense. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Arthur Kiel in the 21st minute of the match. When Stevnstrup's Arthur Kiel in the 44th minute got a chance for a shot 44th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ecuador's goalie prevented a goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 63rd minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Stevnstrup was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Per Højrup didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cristian Sancho who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 78thth minute tested the skills of Benni Skovhus when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Leif Puls received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Juan Sebastián Puig during the 96th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 96 minutes play. Juan Sebastián Puig hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Villy Bjørnsholm stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Villy Bjørnsholm tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
