Spectators: 43 (Terracing: 33, Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Walter Mutuku started the match with the kick off. An unexpected shot in the 4th minute by Shekhar Biwott got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Benito Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Walter Mutuku went, in the 6th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Elijah Leakey's late challenge caught a Costa Rica's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Elijah Leakey helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Rothwell Park getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Elijah Leakey hit a great ball. Eliseo Noboa might have been able to make a better finish in the 11th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Tony Githinji Muhoho. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Eliseo Noboa ran back to his position shaking his head. After 11 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Rothwell Park! After some careless play in the Rothwell Park defense, Axel Tasis kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Tony Githinji Muhoho. The Rothwell Park fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Tony Githinji Muhoho should have stopped the shot. In the 23rdth minute of the game Axel Tasis who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Rothwell Park's Tony Githinji Muhoho was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Costa Rica's zone, Walter Mutuku stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Benito Sanz came out of the goal and Walter Mutuku tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Alan Moruga got a free kick in the 27th minute. Rothwell Park's supporters crossed their fingers, but Walter Mutuku was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 36 minutes into the game, Costa Rica's Axel Tasis nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Tony Githinji Muhoho made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. After having played for 39 minutes, Walter Mutuku managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Rothwell Park's supporters crossed their fingers, but Walter Mutuku was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Daniel Kiprugut kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. In the 45th minute Axel Tasis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tony Githinji Muhoho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Walter Mutuku could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 48th minute of the match, but Benito Sanz made a huge save.

The referee gave Rothwell Park a penalty, 56 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Sammy Keino, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Costa Rica's Benito Sanz. 2-2. In the 67th minute, Lautaro Puig ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Tony Githinji Muhoho was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-3. Rothwell Park's William Mohamed was substituted for Walter Mutuku. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from William Mohamed in the 73rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by William Mohamed in the 75th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 79th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lautaro Puig to maneuver through the defense. Sammy Keino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 83rd minute Shekhar Biwott shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A hard shot 84 in the game by Axel Tasis from a close distance when the talented Tony Githinji Muhoho managed to make a qualified save. Rothwell Park's players were relieved. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from William Mohamed, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. Tony Githinji Muhoho was a little too slow when Eliseo Noboa got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 92nd minute. The score was now 2-4. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Rothwell Park lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
