The corner ended in Daniel Zorita almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Mesterháza's Zoltán Pataki did a great save. Agustín Saelices received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Zoltán Pataki tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mesterháza's Zoltán Pataki played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Agustín Saelices in the 19th minute of play. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Mesterháza was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Domenico Ottavi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Zoltán Pataki made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 25th minute of play. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wilfredo Bermudez, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Pál Borsos kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Julio Vera. That made the score 1-0 in the 28 minute of play. 31 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Wilfredo Bermudez came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 34th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zoltán Pataki saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 34thth minute of the game Daniel Zorita who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Mesterháza's Zoltán Pataki was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 38 minutes into the match, Mesterháza's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Zoltán Pataki reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 44th minute, Felix Montenegro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
