When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Bernt Jønsson made a kick off. After a rather tough play, Palmeiras's Iustin Bungeanu got a free kick in the 51st minute. Palmeiras's Régis de Queirós played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joel Gaona in the 52nd minute of play. After 53 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Felix Luque. Lautaro Mancebo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Régis de Queirós having to interfere. Joel Gaona received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Régis de Queirós tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Joel Gaona came up free with the goalie in the 69th minute, the Mexico fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Joel Gaona couldn't finish the play. After some careless play in the Palmeiras defense, Lautaro Mancebo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Régis de Queirós. The Palmeiras fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Régis de Queirós should have stopped the shot.
