Julio Vera was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Teodoro Peio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Agustín Saelices in the 19th minute of play. Felix Montes was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. In the 32nd match minute, Atlético Nacional was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Higinio Ofelio to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Atlético Nacional's zone, Daniel Zorita stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. A collision led to Atlético Nacional getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Higinio Ofelio hit a great ball. When Vicente Sasoin fell near the penalty area in the 55th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Atlético Nacional's protests and gave Vicente Sasoin a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Atlético Nacional getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Vicente Sasoin hit a great ball. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Baldomero Rodas in the 57th minute of play. The corner ended in Baldomero Rodas almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. Teodoro Peio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. 67 minutes had been played when some careless play by Atlético Nacional's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Teodoro Peio in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 70th match minute, Atlético Nacional was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Serafin Theodore to maneuver through the defense. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vicente Sasoin in the 89th minute of play. 93 minutes had been played when some careless play by Atlético Nacional's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Daniel Zorita fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Teodoro Peio quite easily take care of the ball. Ecuador's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Atlético Nacional had won, even though Ecuador had held more of the ball.
