An unexpectedly hard shot by Mariano Lacasa in the 17th minute of play forced Grêmio Prudente's goalkeeper Quinto Fonticoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 21 minutes into the game, Christiano da Cunha threw the ball into play from the sideline. Chile's Felix Garrido quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Grêmio Prudente's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Edson Ribeiro in the 26th minute. Orlando Casaus kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. Quinto Fonticoba showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mariano Lacasa, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mariano Lacasa to make the kick off. With his leg Quinto Fonticoba managed to avoid a goal in the 62ndth minute, when Chile's Mariano Lacasa fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Quinto Fonticoba didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Chile. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Chile eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
