After 3 played minutes Bolivia got a freekick which was hit by Benito Madrid. When Eduardo Fontirroig fell near the penalty area in the 9th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Bolivia's protests and gave Eduardo Fontirroig a yellow card for diving instead. Eduardo Fontirroig kicked well hit freekick during the 9th minute of the match. Bolivia's Mario Fernandino got a good chance for a goal in the 11th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Eduardo Fontirroig was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 21 minutes had been played. A collision led to Bolivia getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Eduardo Fontirroig hit a great ball. Alfredo Ferrant received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Carlinhos da Costa came out and tried to block the shot, but Alfredo Ferrant slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 29th minute. E.C 2 Janeiro RS's Carlinhos da Costa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfredo Ferrant in the 32nd minute of play. Bolivia were awarded a corner in the 34th minute after E.C 2 Janeiro RS's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Mario Fernandino took the corner. Válter de Sousa blasted a shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Camilo Freixa having to make a save. Julio Chicote charged in rather forcefully in the 40th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Julio Chicote the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 40th minute, Julio Chicote hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 44 minutes into the game, Válter de Sousa was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. E.C 2 Janeiro RS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Bolivia the free kick. After 44 played minutes E.C 2 Janeiro RS got a freekick which was hit by Válter de Sousa. Alfredo Ferrant struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Carlinhos da Costa didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bolivia. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mario Fernandino in the 47th minute of play forced E.C 2 Janeiro RS's goalkeeper Carlinhos da Costa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
The wind increased when Marco Valadares made the kick off in the second half. The supporters of E.C 2 Janeiro RS booed when Bolivia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alfonso de la Cruz didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 58th minute Marco Valadares shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Camilo Freixa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 60 minutes, Mario Fernandino managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bolivia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mario Fernandino was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Mario Fernandino came up free with the goalie in the 61st minute, the Bolivia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mario Fernandino couldn't finish the play. Alfredo Ferrant sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Paulo Pontes hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. Carlinhos da Costa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfonso de la Cruz in the 70th minute of play. In the 70th minute, Julio Chicote hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 74 minutes into the match, Marco Valadares had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Camilo Freixa. Bolivia's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Marco Valadares was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Dário Gomes kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. Camilo Freixa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Válter de Sousa in the 82nd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Julio Chicote in the 88th minute of play forced E.C 2 Janeiro RS's goalkeeper Carlinhos da Costa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Alfredo Ferrant had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Bolivia's Mario Fernandino got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Bolivia's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
