Francisco Seco ran back to his position shaking his head. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Maximiliano Escribano managed to get in a good position for a shot. Uruguay's supporters rose to their feet, but Maximiliano Escribano was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rômulo Moreno breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Raimundo de Alcântara made in the 41st minute of the game a quick throw-in and Décio de Brito immediately put the ball in play. If Francisco Seco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. With an all-out effort, Uruguay's Rômulo Moreno threw himself towards the right post 44 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Alberto Gisbert, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 4-0 at half-time.

Rômulo Moreno made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Gisbert in the 93rd minute of play. If Maximiliano Escribano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute.
