Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adilson Andrade in the 9th minute of play. Marcelinho Lopez's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Julio Vera firmly grabbed it by the left post. Rogelio Aurken took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Marcelinho Lopez in the 17thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Julio Vera, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcelinho Lopez in the 20th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Eleuterio Galo got free with Julio Vera in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Rogelio Aurken showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Marcelinho Lopez's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Julio Vera firmly grabbed it by the left post. Marcelinho Lopez succeeded in the game's 29th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-0. Rogelio Aurken showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 33rd minute of the match. Adilson Andrade kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. 38 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Marcelinho Lopez. After 39 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Alexsandro Dionísio who took care of the corner kick. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rogelio Aurken having to interfere.

The supporters of Santos City booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Daniel Zorita didn't get a good kick on the ball. With his leg Rogelio Aurken managed to avoid a goal in the 56thth minute, when Ecuador's Cristian Sancho fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Valério Galvão received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Santos City made a substitution. Reinaldo Barreto replaced Aílton de Barros. Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Santos City's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rogelio Aurken came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Santos City's Caner Timurhan was substituted for Eleuterio Galo. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Caner Timurhan, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. After 76 minutes of play, Santos City's Marcelinho Lopez made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Julio Vera was left in no man's land by his defense there! Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 81th minute after Santos City's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. The supporters of Santos City booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Montes didn't get a good kick on the ball. 87 minutes into the match, Santos City's Caner Timurhan sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 92 minutes play. Cristian Sancho hit a great ball. Marcelinho Lopez blasted a shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Julio Vera having to make a save. Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ecuador's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
