Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Florentino Rodas, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Camilo Gaos during the 20th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 21 played minutes, Estudiantes de La Plata's Florencio Ponc shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Estudiantes de La Plata reached it. In the 23rd minute, Albino Viviano ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jonathan Ferrant was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. Florentino Rodas struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Jonathan Ferrant didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Estudiantes de La Plata. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Florentino Rodas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Patricio Costa hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Filomeno Marko in the 35th minute of play. Thanks to some nice moves Albino Viviano could shoot a difficult shot in the 38th minute, which Jonathan Ferrant however easily saved by the left post. 39 minutes into the game, Florentino Rodas cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Jonathan Ferrant was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Florentino Rodas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Patricio Costa made a kick off. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Albino Viviano in the 56th minute of play. Mário Súľovský made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patricio Costa in the 57th minute of play. Estudiantes de La Plata's Filomeno Marko got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Florencio Ponc kicked well hit freekick during the 71st minute of the match. Mário Súľovský made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patricio Costa in the 74th minute of play. 4-0 became the score in the 75th minute when Filomeno Marko elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Estudiantes de La Plata's Marcos Bilintx was substituted for Albino Viviano. Estudiantes de La Plata made a substitution. Tadeusz Rasialdo replaced Seber Piñera. After a defensive mix-up in Estudiantes de La Plata's zone, Patricio Costa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mário Súľovský came out of the goal and Patricio Costa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 84th minute, Florencio Ponc hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 86th minute Filomeno Marko shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Venezuela's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
