Julio Vera dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. A hard shot 36 in the game by Kazimierz Birkenhagen from a close distance when the talented Julio Vera managed to make a qualified save. Ecuador's players were relieved. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Kazimierz Birkenhagen was the one to do the kick off. Carlos Bento received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. It seemed to be an obvious goal in the 53rd minute, but Du got his fingers on the ball or the save, leaving NDVX hanging dry this time. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Du having to interfere. Carlos Bento ran back to his position shaking his head. The supporters of Ecuador booed when NDVX was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arkadiusz Wogensen didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Kazimierz Birkenhagen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, NDVX's Du got control of the ball when Agustín Saelices tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Luis Andino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute.
