Laércio Travassos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. In the 12th minute Mai Hontoria shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Bucaneiros's Mai Hontoria in the 13th minute got a chance for a shot 13th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ecuador's goalie prevented a goal. Ernest Spoelbergs's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Julio Vera firmly grabbed it by the left post. 19 minutes into the match, Bucaneiros's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Bartosz Skikiewicz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 20th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Bucaneiros's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. Luis Andino was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Luis Andino hit a great ball. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 23rd minute, when Laércio Travassos sent off a good shot on target. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mai Hontoria in the 24th minute of play. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 25th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 32 minutes, Felix Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Felix Montenegro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Bartosz Skikiewicz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 38th minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ernest Spoelbergs during the 44th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Bucaneiros getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Ernest Spoelbergs hit a great ball.

In the 54th minute, Agustín Saelices hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bucaneiros's Matteo La Forest was substituted for Clodoaldo á Borg. Bucaneiros's Mario Kempes was substituted for Mai Hontoria. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mario Kempes in the 63rd minute of play. Bucaneiros's Laércio Travassos got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 68 minutes into the match, Bucaneiros's goalkeeper Bartosz Skikiewicz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. In the 69th minute, Agustín Saelices hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 70th minute, Ernest Spoelbergs managed to get in a good position for a shot. Bucaneiros's supporters rose to their feet, but Ernest Spoelbergs was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 72 minutes into the match, Bucaneiros's Laércio Travassos sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Mario Kempes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 73rd minute of the game. Luis Andino could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 74th minute of the match, but Bartosz Skikiewicz made a huge save. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Laércio Travassos managed to get in a good position for a shot. Bucaneiros's supporters rose to their feet, but Laércio Travassos was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
