Republica Ploiești's Lucian Luțu got a good chance for a goal in the 35th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 40 minutes into the game, Lucian Luțu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Republica Ploiești's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave El Salvador the free kick. Lucian Luțu hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. The Republica Ploiești players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. El Salvador were winning 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Moises Fernandino to make the kick off. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Republica Ploiești lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
