Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
The wind increased when Daniel Zorita made the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Isandro Calvo in the 66th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Horácio Rossi came out and tried to block the shot, but Daniel Zorita slotted it home off the left post making it 0-2 in the 69th minute.
