Domingo Lozano made a great header on Rapid Punta Cana's corner, it was just that Ecuador's Julio Vera managed to reach the ball for a save. After having played for 51 minutes, Patricio Veguri managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Rapid Punta Cana's supporters crossed their fingers, but Patricio Veguri was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Daniel Zorita's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Kurt Rosen read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 53rd minute of play. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Kurt Rosen showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 66 minutes had been played when some careless play by Rapid Punta Cana's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. When Jorge Segovia fell near the penalty area in the 67th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Rapid Punta Cana's protests and gave Jorge Segovia a yellow card for diving instead. In the 68th match minute, Rapid Punta Cana was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jorge Segovia to maneuver through the defense. The corner led to Ecuador's Felix Montenegro getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal.
