When Guillermo Mariano fell near the penalty area in the 20th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Venezuela's protests and gave Guillermo Mariano a yellow card for diving instead. 20 minutes into the game, one of Venezuela:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Jonathan Ferrant made an important save on a dangerous shot by Adélio Mota in the 24th minute. Caballo Negro's Bonifacio Matxin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Patricio Costa in the 46th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Caballo Negro's zone, Patricio Costa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bonifacio Matxin came out of the goal and Patricio Costa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tomas Illescas stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that Artur Van Caels's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jonathan Ferrant was relentless in the 54th minute of the game. In the 57th minute Iker Herensuge shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Caballo Negro's Bonifacio Matxin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Patricio Costa in the 58th minute of play. Caballo Negro's Adélio Mota got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Artur Van Caels had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Artur Van Caels in the 86th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jonathan Ferrant prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Tomas Illescas received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Bonifacio Matxin came out and tried to block the shot, but Tomas Illescas slotted it home off the left post making it 2-3 in the 92nd minute. The Venezuela supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Venezuela would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
