Fulgencio Rioja dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. In the 29th match minute, Velez was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Venancio Caton to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 31st minute of play forced Velez's goalkeeper Fulgencio Rioja to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fulgencio Rioja showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 35th minute of the match. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 37th minute after Velez's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. The corner led to Ecuador's Luis Andino getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Luis Andino's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Fulgencio Rioja read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 37th minute of play. Fulgencio Rioja took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 44th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Velez were awarded a corner in the 47th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Götz Dubach took the corner. The corner led Velez's Götz Dubach to fire away a dangerous shot which Julio Vera despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The Velez players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ecuador were winning 0-2.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Daniel Zorita to strike the kick off in the second half. Daniel Zorita's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Fulgencio Rioja read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 51st minute of play. 51 minutes into the match, Daniel Zorita dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Fulgencio Rioja, 0-3. Luis Andino was extremely unlucky when he, in the 66th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Fulgencio Rioja in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 71 minutes, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 73rd minute of play forced Velez's goalkeeper Fulgencio Rioja to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Velez's Fulgencio Rioja proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 73rd minute of the match, managed to save Velez from getting a goal against them. Fulgencio Rioja showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 77th minute of the match. A nice corner shot did that Luis Andino got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Fulgencio Rioja quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. In the 80th match minute, Velez was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Götz Dubach to maneuver through the defense. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Velez fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Ecuador were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
