With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 87 minutes into the game, Cristian Sancho cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-2. Artur Boruc was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The audience was convinced that Luo Wei Xi's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 93rd minute of the game. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Joga Bonito fans cheered their team off the field, for while Ecuador had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
