In the 48th minute, Joel Gaona got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Adam Buksa made the kick off in the second half. After 52 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Facundo Cadaval. Lertxun Angostina took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 53rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Dante Lacasa. Mexico's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Joel Gaona was extremely unlucky when he, in the 54th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out.
