UM Timisoara's Juan Gaitan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luis Andino in the 3rd minute of play. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ernest Oardă in the 4th minute of play. The corner led UM Timisoara's Paul Mirea to a score. 1-0 in the 6th minute. Paul Mirea recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 8th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 19th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. In the 20th minute, Vlad Ghionaru hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in UM Timisoara's zone, Felix Montenegro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Juan Gaitan came out of the goal and Felix Montenegro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Luis Andino's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Juan Gaitan read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 29th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis Andino in the 32nd minute of play forced UM Timisoara's goalkeeper Juan Gaitan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Yuri Mourato got free with Julio Vera in the 36th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. Juan Gaitan made a fantastic save in the 75th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. Alex Bungescu's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. In the 86th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. UM Timisoara's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. After having played for 88 minutes, Yuri Mourato managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. UM Timisoara's supporters crossed their fingers, but Yuri Mourato was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. UM Timisoara made a substitution. Tiberiu Cristian replaced Mădălin Busuioc. Daniel Zorita hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match. UM Timisoara's Yuri Mourato got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Ecuador booed when UM Timisoara was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vlad Ghionaru didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 96th minute, Cristian Sancho reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Juan Gaitan. The goal made the score 2-1. When the referee blew the final whistle, UM Timisoara could leave the field as winners, despite Ecuador having more of the ball for most of the match.
