Luz Tejedor was slow to take the kick. During this time Peru's players had a chance to rest. An unexpectedly hard shot by Julian Murillo in the 37th minute of play forced Meliana's goalkeeper Marco-Antonio Nunez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Marco-Antonio Nunez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Murillo in the 40th minute of play.

52 minutes into the game, Will Appleton was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Meliana's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Peru the free kick.
