Spectators: 39 (Terracing: 30, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Moises Fernandino kicked off to start the match. In the 14thth minute of the game Moises Fernandino who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC Schalke 04's Trent Cuevas was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 15 minutes into the match, El Salvador's goalkeeper Ricardo Zorita had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by František Spousta. After some careless play in the El Salvador defense, František Spousta kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ricardo Zorita. The El Salvador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ricardo Zorita should have stopped the shot. Abram Luque hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. Moises Fernandino's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Trent Cuevas read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 26th minute of play. Ricardo Zorita showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Percy Rios in the 32nd minute of the match. Moises Fernandino recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

The supporters of El Salvador booed when FC Schalke 04 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Darren Christopher didn't get a good kick on the ball. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The FC Schalke 04 fans cheered their team off the field, for while El Salvador had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
