The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 3rd minute, Joel Gaona ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ionică Corcoveanu was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Flavius Stanciu's late challenge caught a Mexico's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Flavius Stanciu helped the player get up and apologised. In the 11th minute, Flavius Stanciu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 13th minute, Lautaro Mancebo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Mexico fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Costin Teodoreanu kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. Dante Lacasa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Yin Li Ying in the 26th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Filip Pantiș kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Dante Lacasa. That made the score 1-2 in the 27 minute of play. Ionică Corcoveanu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Facundo Cadaval in the 31st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 33rd minute of play forced Eintracht Cernavoda's goalkeeper Ionică Corcoveanu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ionică Corcoveanu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Felix Luque, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Yin Li Ying got free with Dante Lacasa in the 41st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 44 minutes into the match, Mexico's goal looked a bit too open when Filip Pantiș came free, but Dante Lacasa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Eintracht Cernavoda's Mikael Isak was substituted for Philip Walter. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The crowd rose to their feet as Mexico's Alberto Tafalla slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Ionică Corcoveanu. That made the score 1-3 after 74 minutes of play. Alberto Tafalla's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ionică Corcoveanu read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 80th minute of play. Ionică Corcoveanu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. After 94 minutes, Joel Gaona mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Mexico and the Eintracht Cernavoda players grew even worse after the yellow card.
