The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Cosme Demesio during the 18th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 18th minute, Cosme Demesio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Luz Tejedor sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. Petter Skarkman's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rolando Noboa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 47th minute of play. Protegéerna were awarded a corner in the 49th minute after Peru's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Michael Näver took the corner. Michael Näver made a great header on Protegéerna's corner, it was just that Peru's Rolando Noboa managed to reach the ball for a save. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Julian Murillo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 66th minute of the match, but Bolo Skjold made a huge save. When Eliseo Mina fell near the penalty area in the 68th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Peru's protests and gave Eliseo Mina a yellow card for diving instead. In the 68th match minute, Peru was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eliseo Mina to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Julian Murillo got free with Bolo Skjold in the 71st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Julian Murillo in the 73rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Bolo Skjold prevented the ball from getting in the gole. A sloppy throw-in by Emmanuel Reyes in the 75th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Protegéerna's Cosme Demesio. Rolando Noboa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Petter Skarkman, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. Peru's Eliseo Alcocer was substituted for Moises Gayoso. Peru made a substitution. Rafael Gallo replaced Julian Murillo. A sloppy throw-in by Jonny Ånger in the 84th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Peru's Eliseo Mina. Bolo Skjold made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rafael Gallo in the 84th minute of play. Peru's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Eliseo Mina in the 86th minute. Eliseo Mina made a great header on Peru's corner, it was just that Protegéerna's Bolo Skjold managed to reach the ball for a save. Rafael Gallo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 87th minute of the match, but Bolo Skjold made a huge save. A collision led to Protegéerna getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Jonny Ånger hit a great ball. Bolo Skjold made an important save on a dangerous shot by Milagros Fraga in the 92nd minute. In the 92nd minute, Peru's Milagros Fraga dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-1. In the 97th minute Petter Skarkman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Protegéerna fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Peru were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
