Phil Porter showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Juan Sebastián Puig, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Phil Porter showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 38th minute of the match. Martial Jay scored 2-0 in the 42nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pere Montaña in the 54th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Martial Jay in the 58th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Diego Mancebo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 59th minute of the match, but Phil Porter made a huge save. The audience thought a goal was coming when Felix Montenegro got free with Phil Porter in the 63rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. FC LIVERPOOL succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Ecuador had controlled the match.
