The 魔人布欧 fans' excitement grew in the 14th match minute when 魔人布欧's 杜镇梁 looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. When Axel Tasis fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Costa Rica's protests and gave Axel Tasis a yellow card for diving instead. Sun Cheng Hong showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eliseo Noboa in the 42nd minute of the match. If Eliseo Noboa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and 赵宁树 made a kick off. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from 尤鹰渊 in the 53rd minute of play. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot. After a defensive mix-up in Costa Rica's zone, 肖云帆 stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Benito Sanz came out of the goal and 肖云帆 tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Abel Carballo's late challenge caught a 魔人布欧's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Abel Carballo helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Abel Carballo hit a great ball. The 魔人布欧 manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Costa Rica to win.
