Xavies Muñagorri could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 14th minute of the match, but Jonathan Ferrant made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mac Mon in the 18th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carl Van Kamp, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. Luc Van Hinnendael took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Illescas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Rigoberto Mina hit a great ball. 28 minutes had been played when some careless play by Venezuela's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Lasse Kroner was slow to take the kick. During this time FC Bruges's players had a chance to rest. After a rather tough play, FC Bruges's Bernardo Urtzi got a free kick in the 30th minute. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 31st minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carl Van Kamp in the 33rd minute of play. In the 34th minute of the match FC Bruges got a corner. Venezuela's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Lasse Kroner ran over to the corner to take the kick. FC Bruges's Lasse Kroner was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Jonathan Ferrant in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Shane Corrigan could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Jonathan Ferrant made a huge save. Luc Van Hinnendael took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Patricio Costa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the match had gone on for 44 minutes, Xavies Muñagorri put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Tomas Illescas charged in rather forcefully in the 47th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Tomas Illescas the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Xavies Muñagorri made a kick off. FC Bruges's Luc Van Hinnendael proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 57th minute of the match, managed to save FC Bruges from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Xavies Muñagorri in the 59th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 63rd minute, Mac Mon ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jonathan Ferrant was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Xavies Muñagorri managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Bruges's supporters rose to their feet, but Xavies Muñagorri was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jonathan Ferrant breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Venezuela's attentive Jonathan Venegas managed to snatch the ball when Fedele Baggio made a throw-in in the 70th minute of the game. In the 72ndth minute of the game Mac Mon who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The tension between the Venezuela and the FC Bruges players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 97th minute, Lasse Kroner got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. FC Bruges fully deserved thier win.
