The referee felt a red card was in order, 89 minutes into the game, when Bolo Schwarzer put in a rough tackle. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ecuador's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because FC 08 Brühl had won, even though Ecuador had held more of the ball.
