Sport Maia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Francisco Trinca was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 26 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Tomas Illescas. In the 28th minute, Jose Correa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 35 minutes into the match, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Albérico Igrejas narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Francisco Trinca struck a weak shot in the 37th minute. Jonathan Ferrant didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sport Maia. An unexpectedly hard shot by Francisco Trinca in the 38th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jonathan Ferrant stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Francisco Trinca's shot from short distance in the 43rd minute. When Hilário Malheiro fell near the penalty area in the 44th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sport Maia's protests and gave Hilário Malheiro a yellow card for diving instead. After 45 played minutes Sport Maia got a freekick which was hit by Hilário Malheiro.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tomas Illescas stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Francisco Trinca in the 53rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jonathan Ferrant saved Venezuela from getting behind. Patricio Costa kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. Alex Chicote hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. In the 55th minute of the match Nuno Teves sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jonathan Ferrant skillfully saved the ball. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Sport Maia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Herberto Trigueiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Patricio Costa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sport Maia's Albérico Igrejas proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 70th minute of the match, managed to save Sport Maia from getting a goal against them. Venezuela's Salvador Gisbert quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Apolo Bihar, made in the 75th minute of the game. After a rather tough play, Sport Maia's Hermano Novais got a free kick in the 75th minute. The supporters of Sport Maia booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Patricio Costa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Francisco Trinca recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 81st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Tomas Illescas struck a weak shot in the 90th minute. Albérico Igrejas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Venezuela. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Francisco Trinca, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the match had gone on for 94 minutes, Tomas Illescas took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Albérico Igrejas to make any attempt to save it. Patricio Costa was shown his second yellow card after 97 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Patricio Costa got a free kick in the 98th minute. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
