Despite this Thomas Sørensen quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Felix Montenegro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Thomas Sørensen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Zahari Kiratzov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 18th minute of play forced FC Grivata's goalkeeper Thomas Sørensen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 20th minute, Zahari Kiratzov left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FC Grivata fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Thomas Sørensen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luis Andino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The shot was a little too simple and Thomas Sørensen could save by the left post. Daniel Zorita's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Thomas Sørensen read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 87th minute of play. Cristian Sancho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 89th minute of the match, but Thomas Sørensen made a huge save. Thomas Sørensen made a fantastic save in the 93rd minute, when Felix Montenegro sent off a good shot on target. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
