Mexico's Dante Lacasa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 9th minute of the match, managed to save Mexico from getting a goal against them. Taisto Pentsinen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Dante Lacasa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mexico's Dante Lacasa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Taisto Pentsinen in the 11th minute of play. Edwin van der Sar didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Alberto Tafalla went, in the 14th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. In the 19th minute Taisto Pentsinen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Lacasa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dante Lacasa made a fantastic save in the 24th minute, when Valdemar Kuoppala sent off a good shot on target. In the 25th minute of the match Manchester United FC got a corner. Mexico's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Eero Uusipaavalniemi ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Manchester United FC's Eero Uusipaavalniemi to fire away a dangerous shot which Dante Lacasa despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Manchester United FC's Edwin van der Sar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luca Zorita in the 27th minute of play. If Alberto Tafalla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Taisto Pentsinen succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-1 in the 32nd playminute. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Joel Gaona to strike the kick off in the second half. Lautaro Mancebo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 51st minute of the match, but Edwin van der Sar made a huge save. Alberto Tafalla recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Alberto Tafalla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alberto Tafalla could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 69th minute of the match, but Edwin van der Sar made a huge save. A collision led to Manchester United FC getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Aarre Uusiniemi hit a great ball. 72 minutes into the match, Mexico's Joel Gaona broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Edwin van der Sar made a fantastic save in the 74th minute, when Joel Gaona sent off a good shot on target. Dante Lacasa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Davide Beckham, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Facundo Cadaval could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 83rd minute of the match, but Edwin van der Sar made a huge save. 85 minutes into the match, Manchester United FC's goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lautaro Mancebo. Through an outstanding action, after 87 minutes, Edwin van der Sar successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. 88 minutes into the match, Eero Uusipaavalniemi notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Mexico's Dante Lacasa. Dante Lacasa was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 92nd match minute, Manchester United FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gary Neville to maneuver through the defense. Despite being the better team, Mexico failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
