The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Jonathan Ferrant made an important save on a dangerous shot by Hélio Donatello in the 6th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Illescas in the 13th minute of play forced Jagiellonia Denver's goalkeeper Eric Gary to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 22 minutes into the match, Jagiellonia Denver's goal looked a bit too open when Tomas Illescas came free, but Eric Gary reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Eric Gary made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patricio Costa in the 26th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Hélio Donatello got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 27th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cacá Čačak, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Patricio Costa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Salvador Gisbert hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. In the 42nd minute, Guillermo Mariano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ricardo Gareca in the 43rd minute of the match. In the 46th match minute, Jagiellonia Denver was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ricardo Gareca to maneuver through the defense. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Cacá Čačak made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Guillermo Mariano to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Rigoberto Mina got a free kick in the 67th minute. Jagiellonia Denver's Özalp Durkaya was substituted for Florence Diaz. Rigoberto Mina kicked well hit freekick during the 69th minute of the match. 71 minutes into the match, Jagiellonia Denver's goalkeeper Eric Gary had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tomas Illescas. Jagiellonia Denver's Eric Gary proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 75th minute of the match, managed to save Jagiellonia Denver from getting a goal against them. Venezuela's Tomas Illescas couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 79th minute. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Jose Correa hit a great ball. In the 87th minute, Tomas Illescas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Jose Correa got a free kick in the 88th minute. After having played for 91 minutes, Patricio Costa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Venezuela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Patricio Costa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Jagiellonia Denver's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
