An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 15th minute of play forced Manchester City's goalkeeper Paredes Goiano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cristian Sancho might have been able to make a better finish in the 16th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Paredes Goiano. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cristian Sancho ran back to his position shaking his head. Paredes Goiano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 19th minute of the match. 23 minutes into the match, Manchester City's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Paredes Goiano reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 24th minute, Alexander Söderström hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Manchester City's Paredes Goiano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luis Andino in the 25th minute of play. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 28th minute, when Alf Möllgren sent off a good shot on target. Cristian Sancho scored 0-1 in the 29th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Paredes Goiano, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 32nd minute Ulf Tingelholm shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Felix Montenegro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luis Andino's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Paredes Goiano read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 37th minute of play. Luis Andino blasted a shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Paredes Goiano having to make a save. After 44 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Daniel Zorita. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Richard Edström made the kick off in the second half. After 50 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Luis Andino. 52 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Richard Edström came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Richard Edström's shot from short distance in the 53rd minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Richard Edström in the 53rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Richard Edström struck a weak shot in the 57th minute. Julio Vera didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Manchester City. Paredes Goiano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 60th minute of the match, but Paredes Goiano made a huge save. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Richard Edström in the 66th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ulf Tingelholm in the 70th minute of play. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Luis Andino hit a great freekick 79 minutes into the match. If Richard Edström had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 85 minutes, Felix Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Agustín Saelices fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paredes Goiano having to interfere. Paredes Goiano made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 90th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Richard Edström in the 94th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Paredes Goiano made a fantastic save in the 95th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
