The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Karl Pointon during the 7th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The audience thought a goal was coming when Derek Findley got free with Julio Vera in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Derek Findley, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. In the 17th minute Derek Findley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The corner led to Lisburn Distillery F.C.'s Eddie Wittingham getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Luis Andino struck a weak shot in the 21st minute. Juvenal Moreira didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Adrian Ruddock could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 33rd minute. A well-hit corner resulted in Luis Andino heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Adrian Ruddock fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Derek Findley tried to sneak it across the goal line. Vinnie Talbot hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. Agustín Saelices sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Karl Pointon was shown his second yellow card after 44 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Karl Pointon hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Derek Findley kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. When the referee blew the final whistle, Lisburn Distillery F.C. could leave the field as winners, despite Ecuador having more of the ball for most of the match.
