After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 79th minute Juan Sebastián Puig collided with an opponent which caused him a fractured collar bone. When Călin Feroiu fell near the penalty area in the 79th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Calea Sagului's protests and gave Călin Feroiu a yellow card for diving instead. Ecuador made a substitution. Max Alvarado replaced Juan Sebastián Puig. After a rather tough play, FC Calea Sagului's Călin Feroiu got a free kick in the 80th minute.
