If Eliseo Noboa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Lautaro Puig managed to get in a good position for a shot. Costa Rica's supporters rose to their feet, but Lautaro Puig was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nicolás Guerrero breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Lautaro Puig could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Nicolás Guerrero made a huge save. After a defensive mix-up in Real Madrid de Guatemala's zone, Efrain Moruga stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nicolás Guerrero came out of the goal and Efrain Moruga tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Angel Botello scored 0-1 in the 26th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benito Sanz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Real Madrid de Guatemala's attentive Sílvio Luiz Goiano managed to snatch the ball when Hugo Ferrant made a throw-in in the 64th minute of the game.
