With an all-out effort, Smurfarna's Julio Vera threw himself towards the right post 4 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Tord Gustafsson, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 7th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tord Fors saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tord Gustafsson in the 9th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. 11 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Jens Björling came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jens Björling had several of the Ecuador's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 11 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-0 score and a disappointed Julio Vera as he didn't even see the shot coming. In the 14th minute, Cristian Sancho made a precise shot to the right of Tord Fors. Smurfarna's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. Elliott Dalman charged in rather forcefully in the 19th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Elliott Dalman the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Smurfarna was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Elliott Dalman didn't get a good kick on the ball. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cristian Sancho took the ball and in the 48 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Tord Fors. Tord Fors dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
The wind increased when Tord Gustafsson made the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Agustín Saelices got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arne Askstedt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 63rd minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Smurfarna's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Daniel Zorita fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Tord Fors quite easily take care of the ball. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jens Björling in the 67th minute of play. Cristian Sancho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 70th minute of the match, but Tord Fors made a huge save. When the match had gone on for 75 minutes, Daniel Zorita put it in 1-4 from a short distance just to the right of Tord Fors. 77 minutes into the match, Smurfarna's goal looked a bit too open when Luis Andino came free, but Tord Fors reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 78th minute of the match, but Tord Fors made a huge save. In the 80th minute, Arne Askstedt ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Julio Vera was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-4. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis Andino in the 83rd minute of play forced Smurfarna's goalkeeper Tord Fors to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Daniel Zorita in the 86thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Tord Fors, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. The corner ended in Daniel Zorita almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Smurfarna's Tord Fors did a great save. The Smurfarna fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Ecuador were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
