The audience thought a goal was coming when Borja Camerin got free with Thiago Pliego in the 9th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mariano Lacasa in the 10th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Kajetan Smolarek prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 13th minute the ball was on its way in behind barcelona de guayaquil's goalkeeper Kajetan Smolarek, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Mariano Lacasa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. A sloppy throw-in by Priit Virunurm in the 26th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Chile's Pedro Indiano. Kajetan Smolarek took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mariano Lacasa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 30 minutes had been played when some careless play by Chile's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Niels Lindhard was slow to take the kick. During this time barcelona de guayaquil's players had a chance to rest. In the 81st minute of the match barcelona de guayaquil got a corner. Chile's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag.
