With an all-out effort, Peru's Nicasio Abad threw himself towards the right post 39 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Julian Murillo, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Peru were awarded a corner in the 40th minute after Monterrey ante el Mundo⛥'s defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Luz Tejedor took the corner. A well-hit corner resulted in Eliseo Mina heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. The Peru fans' excitement grew in the 42nd match minute when Peru's Julian Murillo looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene.

Julian Murillo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nicasio Abad read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 80th minute of play. The Peru fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. But to his dismay, Rafael Gallo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-1. Monterrey ante el Mundo⛥'s players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
