An unexpectedly hard shot by Cassius Byrne in the 29th minute of play forced Glasgow Rangers FC's goalkeeper Dave Clemente to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Glasgow Rangers FC's Alberigo Bianchini got a free kick in the 36th minute. The audience was convinced that Monty Rogers's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Dave Clemente was relentless in the 37th minute of the game.
