Felix Montes was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 3 minutes into the match. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 2nd minute of the game. One of Ecuador:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of FC Panat:s goal. When the match had been going on for 4 minutes, FC Panat's Dacian Iorgu got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Julio Vera. A hard shot 8 in the game by Panait Moșneanu from a close distance when the talented Julio Vera managed to make a qualified save. Ecuador's players were relieved. In the 12th minute Felix Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dimitris Charalambopoulos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dimitris Charalambopoulos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 14th minute of play forced FC Panat's goalkeeper Dimitris Charalambopoulos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 19 minutes into the match, Luis Andino notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of FC Panat's Dimitris Charalambopoulos. Dimitris Charalambopoulos was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 21st minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dimitris Charalambopoulos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Dimitris Charalambopoulos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 28th minute of the match, Panait Moșneanu got a very nice opportunity to score, but Julio Vera was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dacian Iorgu in the 32nd minute of play. FC Panat's Panait Moșneanu got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 37th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dimitris Charalambopoulos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luis Andino might have been able to make a better finish in the 42nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dimitris Charalambopoulos. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Luis Andino ran back to his position shaking his head. When Panait Moșneanu, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 44 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Julio Vera was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Dimitris Charalambopoulos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 46th minute of the match. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

FC Panat's Concetto Allemandi was substituted for Gică Comșa. The supporters of FC Panat booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Daniel Zorita didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 54 minutes, Panait Moșneanu managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Panat's supporters crossed their fingers, but Panait Moșneanu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 56 minutes into the game, Cristian Sancho cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Dimitris Charalambopoulos was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpected shot in the 61st minute by Cristian Sancho got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. FC Panat's Napoleon Czajka was substituted for Folke Hasselqvist. The FC Panat fans' excitement grew in the 64th match minute when FC Panat's Panait Moșneanu looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 70th minute of the match Manuel Drăgănoiu shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Julio Vera showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Panait Moșneanu in the 73rd minute of play. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dacian Iorgu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. FC Panat's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Suat Okman in the 76th minute. Dacian Iorgu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dacian Iorgu in the 82nd minute of play. Suat Okman hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. When the match had gone on for 86 minutes, Agustín Saelices took a quick shot and it went in 2-3 without a chance for Dimitris Charalambopoulos to make any attempt to save it. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Panait Moșneanu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Panait Moșneanu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than FC Panat throughout the match.
