Julio Vera didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for AVAÍ F.C.. After a defensive mix-up in AVAÍ F.C.'s zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jailson Teles came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jailson Teles having to interfere. After 23 minutes, Innocenzio Corales mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the AVAÍ F.C. and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 23rd minute, one of AVAÍ F.C.:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for AVAÍ F.C.. Jailson Teles had in the 25thth minute some difficulties stopping Daniel Zorita's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After 25 minutes of play, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Walmyr Salles to strike the kick off in the second half. AVAÍ F.C. were victorious despite being under pressure from Ecuador for much of the match.
