Roque Roso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 9th minute, Steve Rogers got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 13 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Roque Roso came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Roque Roso in the 16th minute of play. After some careless play in the Venezuela defense, Roque Roso kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. The Venezuela fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jonathan Ferrant should have stopped the shot. Tomas Illescas scored 1-1 in the 20th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Shao Jing Yuan, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Romulo Lalla in the 32nd minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roque Roso, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. With a little luck, Santa Fe's Shao Jing Yuan got control of the ball when Tomas Illescas tried to sneak it across the goal line. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Roque Roso in the 40th minute of play. 45 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Romulo Lalla came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Romulo Lalla made a kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Juan Fernando Pratto got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Jonathan Ferrant made a fantastic save in the 53rd minute, when Roque Roso sent off a good shot on target. In the 55th minute Romulo Lalla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With an all-out effort, Santa Fe's Jonathan Ferrant threw himself towards the right post 60 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Juan Fernando Pratto, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gilberto Raymond in the 63rd minute of play. In the 68th match minute, Santa Fe was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Romulo Lalla to maneuver through the defense. 73 minutes into the match, Romulo Lalla had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Romulo Lalla was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. Shao Jing Yuan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Patricio Costa, who was totally free with the ball in the 80th minute. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. If Gilberto Raymond had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Jonathan Venegas's late challenge caught a Santa Fe's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jonathan Venegas helped the player get up and apologised. When the final whistle sounded Santa Fe left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Venezuela.
